The We Beat TB campaign seeks to combat Tuberculosis in South Africa through multi-media and community level interventions as a part of the National Department of Health's KICK TB strategy.

Story USAID TB supporting TB in prisons for TB Day

TB Program will use the World TB Day (WTD) event to highlight TB in prisons. Inmates are at high risk of contracting TB and prison facilities are favorable locations for the spread of and development of drug-resistant TB. The high proportion of persons living with HIV/AIDS make prisons a key population grappling with the dual epidemics of TB and HIV.

Story TB Program South Africa Celebrated World TB Day

World TB Day was on March 24, 2013. The TB Program South Africa joined the global Stop TB Partnership in their call to “Stop TB in my Lifetime” by focusing its World TB Activities on TB in children.

At least half a million children under the age of 15 become ill with TB and at least 64,000 die from the disease each year. Many of those children are from South Africa.

Story Update on South African National TB Drug Resistance Survey

January 2013 marked the six-month implementation point for the South African National TB Drug Resistance Survey (DRS).  This collaborative project, sponsored by the National Department of Health, the NICD-NHLS Center for TB, and partially funded by USAID TB Program South Africa, seeks to determine the prevalence of drug resistance among new and previously treated TB cases throughout South Africa’s nine provinces.  The DRS will provide valuable data which will be used to monitor and strengthen the National TB Control Programme efforts.  At the midpoint of the patient intake period, the proje

TB and HIV took center stage at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as President Jacob Zuma launched “Protect the Goal” – a campaign aimed at raising awareness of HIV and mobilizing young people to commit to HIV prevention.
