Bhambayi Settlement Project (BSP)

Grantee Information: 

The BSP was founded in 2000 under the National Integrated Program Sites (NIP) for HIV and AIDS initiative to fight HIV/AIDS and other diseases while focusing on poverty, orphans and vulnerable children. The organization’s mission is to provide high standard of service such as health care directly observed treatment (DOT) support in tuberculosis (TB) and TB/HIV clients in the Inanda community and surrounding areas of Ethekwini Municipality. Their services also include providing adherence classes, DOT Support, screening and identifying TB suspects, education and counselling on TB and HIV prevention, and training to volunteers. BSP is currently operating in Wards 52, 53, and 57.

Purpose: 
To increase access to TB treatment and the revival of DOT centers for Bhambayi and surround areas. Their objectives include 1) capacity trainings of project staff on Basic TB Management, advocacy, communication, and social mobilization (ACSM), and monitoring and evaluation (M&E); 2) improving TB and HIV treatment adherence; 3) improving TB case detection and control ; 4) increasing access to voluntary counselling testing (VCT ) and provider-initiated HIV counseling and testing (PICT) to the community with reduced traveling costs; and 5) increasing community knowledge and participation in TB and HIV issues.
