The Eastern Cape Gender and Development Programme (ECGDP) is a local non-profit organization established in 2001 to provide food, education, home-based care and an after-school care centre for people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and orphans and vulnerable children. Likewise, they have included TB co-infection and other infections in all of their community awareness and people living with AIDS (PLWA) home - based care programs. It is currently operating in the Amathole district of the Eastern Cape Province. ECGDP’s proposed target area of Buffalo City, a sub-district of Amathole and the Duncan Village township.

To reduce the burden of TB in Buffalo City. Their objectives include: 1) supporting communities and patients’ empowerment on TB control; 2) providing high quality Directly Observed TB Short Course (DOTS) support; 3) increasing TB case findings and early detection activities among household contacts and children; 4) increasing treatment success rate in new smear positive TB cases and reduce defaulter rate; 5) strengthening collaborative TB/HIV activities in the community and 6) establishing a TB reporting, program management monitoring and evaluation system.
