Isiphephelo was established in 2002 by the Highveld ridge child and family welfare society in Govan Mbeki Municipality, Gert Sibande district in Mpumalanga Province. The organization began with 10 caregivers and one coordinator conducting door-to-door campaigns encouraging people to test for HIV and educating them about HIV prevention. In 2008, they registered as a non-profit organization (NPO) with the goal of providing holistic health care services to tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS patients, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
